What will the Internet look like in fifteen years? Researchers are working on a “clean-slate” approach, scrapping what has been built and starting over. What was initially designed as a trusted communication has succumbed to unscrupulous activity, prompting the need for a new system. As I read the article I tried to envision what a new Internet would look like and what governments would do differently to ensure a safe and secure on-line information highway. As a society, we are so dependent on the Internet for our daily activities, i.e. research, directions, banking, purchasing, that it is hard to imagine a different system. The transition is even more incomprehensible. Tampering with a fourty-year old network could be dangerous. Let’s hope if a new system is in place all contingencies are prepared for.
